Right, not a point about fairness between teams, just that a runner often has to stop at 2nd when they would have made 3rd if the DBT line was farther out.

Pet peeve. Umpires who want the best of both worlds.

I'm came up in a world of Ol' Sams that wanted there to be no DBT line for the defense, but limit the offense to two bases on any "overthrown" ball. Kicker was that the runner had to make it and was still liable to be put out.

You think these guys were looking for every out they can get?

Yeah, I used to hear ground rules like that when I first started, or I guess while we still had umpires who were around then.
