Come on now, let's be ADULTS here. :eek: Yes, your local softball associations do pay us (not enough sometimes) but who brought that up? Nowhere did I say anything about the only competitve ball is played in the Dakota's. Why did you bring that up? :eek:

BTW, I don't come out to the diamonds to "watch" you play. I come out to make sure you play the game by the rules and in the process, I have to keep an eye on the game. I'm guessing, but I bet your a Rec 3/4 player? That's the league for new and not-so-good teams.

Changing the subject a little, any of y'all ever get in an argument on the field and then out of the corner of your eye catch your partner doing this: :p :rolleyes: :D ?

Point 1. This is an umpire's board where many umpires come to share and discuss rules, plays, situations and training among other subjects.

Point 2. No one on this board has a problem helping out others, but we are not here for your convenience. You do not pay us to be here. We get no additional perks or benefits from anyone for being here and sharing our experience and knowledge.

Point 3. You asked a question, a simple question. You were given the answer. The fact that you didn't care for it is an issue you can deal with in the mirror. It is the correct answer and I simply followed up Steve's reply in a humorous manner. Do you even know what "one of forty-two" means? BTW, Steve probably knows more about softball, the game and rules, than most ,if not all, of the people you know combined.

Point 4. Just because your league or whatever uses ASA rules, it doesn't mean that they cannot invoke Rule 12 and modify said rules in any manner they wish to accommodate their teams.

Final point. You can come on this board and learn, or not. That is your option. However, even though we all have options, there is no requirement to kowtow to you or anyone else.

This thread serves to illustrate one of my pet peeves with 'local' league rules: players often don't understand that local rules are not necessarily the same as official rules (ASA or other).

In this case, somebody actually made an effort to become informed, but I have an additional suggestion--obtain a current rule book and read it! This will dispell some additional myths.

And from where I'm lurking, there was no rudeness in the first two replies. . .

I've been told I can do that......anyhow want to thank you for your post you are soooo true. That is how I got into this mess in the first place. I was looking online for the ASA rules and found this site. (I do need a book)

I understand the local rules are usually only based on ASA rules........problem is I didn't have a rule book and was just curious.....isn't that what killed that cat.:D

If you are in a league that registers teams ASA..they should provide a copy of the book.... if its BASED on ASA rules, they should have a book at the site, or at least access to league rules.

This is the BEST place to come for a softball rules question...There is NO BETTER place. Sometimes humor will be involved, but 99% of the people here WILL be polite. Dont take any of it personally.

She doesn't have a book, doesn't know the rules, but knowledgable umpires are 'jerks' for not spoonfeeding her the answer she wants to hear :rolleyes:
