Rule I was unaware of
Yesterday, while PU in a game between a team from western Jersey and a team from Long Island, I learned that when a pickoff throw hits the runner at 1B, that runner is awarded 2B. According to this lady spectator, the same principle applies as when a batter is hit by a pitch. It doesn't matter whether the pickoff attempt is by the catcher or the pitcher (in my case, it was by the catcher). This fan seemed quite sure of her position and did not hesitate to decry my lack of knowledge of the rules.
Just so you all know and don't get caught the way I did. This may be ASA only. I'll have to check my NCAA book for how they handle it. Always willing to learn.

That rule was adapted from the PEGSOK league. Of course the also play Pitchers Hand in that league. Its a tough league when attempting to steal you only need to be hit with the thrown ball to be called out. If you knock the person out a extra bonus occurs in that the team has to have a replacement or they forfeit.
