I have been a NFHS softball official for 5 years and on and off and on again ASA official. I really strive to become a better ump. This year in Federation ball I have a new partner and he is great!! I am learning from him and he from me. This is the first time I have had someone good as a partner. My past partner didn't have a clue really and wasn't willing to spend any extra time improving. I really enjoy umpiring.

Yo Shipwreck, am I reading this right? With your HS ball, you have a "permanent" partner? Not so here in north central Pa. Out of maybe 30 games, I think I had 19-20 different partners. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't want the same partner for every game.

Glad to have you on board - an in the same vein as Don's response - we can & do go "overboard" sometimes.

Welcome aboard mate..

Anxious to read your reply to Steve's
question about having same partner as
permanent...Dont know that I could handle
that, unless of course, it was Don, Steve,
or Joel. Succcccck up. For some
interesting and informative information go
to Joels profile and check out the website
he has listed. Steve has some comments on
it also that you will find very useful.

Ahhh!! yes a permanent partner

Steve, in HS ball I do have a permanent partner. I am the one who signs the contracts with the schools and I darn well better have a partner to work with. This is the way we work it here. I am sure in larger cities they don't do it this way but we do. It is great because you get to a point where you know exactly what your partner will do in any situation. I have worked in games in ASA where I have had numerous partners and they have hung me out to dry by not being in position. I am sure both ways have their advantages. Either way, I LOVE to umpire.
