The North Georgia Regional Umpires clinic was held at Emory university yesterday. A few local association awards were given out, but two Umpires were given a very coveted award. One of these is a regular poster on this board.

Inducted into the Georgia ASA Hall of Fame were Tim Smith, and our very own Steve Marcus, (AtlUmpSteve).

Three nomination letters were read for Steve, and the record of service for Georgia ASA was very impressive. Umpires don't often recieve the recognition they should for the work they perform, but being honored in this way by your peers is quite an accomplishment. Steve joins just a few from Georgia who have been thusly honored. Mrs AtlUmpSteve and sons were on hand to witness the award (I believe that was a surprise).

Congratulations AtlUmpSteve!

BTW...You can visit the new Georgia ASA website (parts are still under construction) at http://www.georgiaasa.com

You can see Steve in action on the home page. (yeah that may just be his "best side")

Thanks to all the well-wishers. Buddy, thank you for feeling that it needed to be posted here.

This is doubly sweet for me, in that our Atlanta ASA was made to merge with Georgia ASA. This was the final inductions into the Atlanta ASA Hall of Honor; and will be merged into the Georgia ASA Hall of Fame. So, not only was I honored and recognized by my peers, but it will be the last enty into the (now defunct) Atlanta ASA.

Congrats, Steve on your induction!

Also, send congratulations on to Tim Smith. I met him when he was here in Phoenix to work the 2002 Men's 45 & over NC. Fine umpire and a very nice guy.

Will that earn you an asterisk in the Ga. ASA HOF?
