ASA - Batter pops one up that lands right on the line halfway down the 3rd base line. The spin takes the ball toward the 3rd base dugout. The ball is caught on the first bounce by F5 about 3 ft. outside the 3rd base line. Fair or foul ball?

Reads like just another foul ball. Ball when
outside foul line prior to reaching third, the way I read your post

To Be Honest...
I made the right call, but for the wrong reason..... I called it foul because F5 had stepped into foul territory to make the catch. Had she been standing in fair territory, and reached across the plane to make the catch, I probably would have called it fair. Like in basketball.....
Thanks for the help. Chuck |

Fastpitch basketball
Is it a violation if the BR was in the lane for more than 3 seconds? (Delay of game, maybe!)
What about the F9 reaching over the fence to catch a fly ball, preventing a home run? Is that goaltending, since the ball was on a downward arc? |

It's the Whistle....
Ya know... everyone's been pretty cool on the calls I've made... But it's still been the whistle and sticking my arm in the air, trying to stop the clock, that's annoying everyone...
And... You can imagine all the upset fans, last night, when I brought F2 and B1 together for the jump ball to start the game and the infield wasn't around the restraining batter's boxes! Chuck |
