Sure, tell you how much umpires are paid in Delaware today and the next thing you know, there will be umpires moving in from all over the country. I would have more umpires than I would know what to do with......hey, wait a minute. That's a good thing!
Okay, we make $50 a game, three umpires with a 20 minute 4th inning stretch. No? How about $40 a game, two umpires with a 5 minute 4th inning stretch? Would you believe.......

Central NJ, $42 (cash on the spot) for co-ed business league, and $41 (check, later) for 40-and-over men. For church league doubleheaders, $60 (the 2 games are over in 2 hours). Typical township rec league $32 to $35. Some tournaments, $25 per game, but you get a lot of games.

The best money around here is in FP, in what are called "friendlies," which have sprung up over the past few years. Strong travel teams spend a weekend playing round robins at some multi-field complex. These are simply exhibition games; there's no advancing toward a championship, and no one keeps won-lost records. Substitution is unlimited, except that you're supposed to keep the same batting order. Umps get $45 cash per (1-man) game, and there's an 80-minute time limit, so doing 4 or 5 games in a day isn't too hard.
Earlier this year I did a 2-hour, 10-inning scrimmage between two very strong 18u teams preparing for a tournament in the Midwest. The base ump and I each got paid $100 cash. At the pregame conference, both coaches even laughingly announced: "Don't worry, Blue, we're not even going to keep score, so there won't be any arguments."

Get that rate up before I move back down there (one more gray winter and we may be there). Heck, ASA championship play is now paying better than that...

Omaha (Nebraska) Metro area varies a little for SP.
In Omaha, it's $16/umpire for 2-umpire, and $20/umpire for 1-umpire. In the Metro Open league (the top league in the area which is handled in Omaha), it's $18/umpire for 2-umpire, and $22/umpire for 1-umpire. Go across the county line to LaVista, I know that they're getting $18/umpire for 2-umpire, and $20/umpire for 1-umpire. Go across the river to Council Bluffs (Iowa), it's $15/umpire for 2-umpire, and $20/umpire for 1-umpire. Those are the league fees. Tournament fees tend to be $17-18/umpire for 1-umpire and $16-18/umpire for 2-umpire, depending on the type of tournament, etc. |
