walk before shorthanded out

Coach in rec league SP game calls time after a walk to batter before automatic out playing short. Informs PU that there can be no out. Can't find this in rule book. Am I overlooking such a rule?

Not in ASA; a shorthanded out is a shorthanded whenever that batting position comes up, no matter how you get there.

could be a league rule....If its not....it doesnt exist in the ASA rulebook
