1 out, R1. B2 hits fly to center, R1 breaks with hit. F8 catches fly for out, and throws to F3 to attempt to double up R1, who is returning quickly to 1B. Ball thrown goes out of play, field ump sends R1 to 3B (R1 properly retouches 1B). Coach thought rule had changed to only send R1 to 2B. I looked up in Rule 8.5, and it appears to me call was correct.
Any ideas where coach may have thought he read about this alleged "rule change"?
