Greetings, all!

Please, say a prayer for my 14 yr old son who is in the intensive care ward after having surgury to relieve pressure on his brain last week. He had a sinus infection that seeped into his skull and caused the swelling and a minor stroke.

We are very hopefull but won't know the outcome for sure until he can be brought out of sedation, which may not be for another few days up to a couple of weeks.

We are all hoping the Umpire-In-Chief calls him "SAFE" at home soon!

Thanks!!

Being a parent of two of my own...my thoughts are definitely with you. I hope everything works out for you and have faith that the 'UIC' makes the proper ruling.

Thanks!!

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. Chris seems to be improving after having a 2nd operation this weekend to remove infection from his sinuses.

He is slowly being weened off some of the drugs which have kept him sedatated during this time; he opens his eyes now from time to time and seems to be aware of us, although he is still on a respirator and cant talk.

The steps of improvement seem painfully slow to those of us who want our Chris back; but it does seem more and more like we can dare to hope that time will bring him back.

Thanks again,
Ernie

Thanks again for your thoughts. Chris is still in ICU but awake and alert. The stroke has left him with very little control over his arms and legs and no speach.. but what movement he does have lets us know that he is understanding speach from us. He is able to get all of his limbs to move a little, at least to twitch, and today he was able to lift his right arm and move his right leg a bit (stroke was on left side of brain). He is able to give us small nods and make a thumbs up signal from time to time.

While all of that sounds pretty bad (and is) the good news is that with a lot of hard work in rehab, he should be able to recover. He has youth and good prior health going for him. No summer "vacation" for this kid!

I have confidence he will make it.

In the meantime, I have started working games again. The two to four hours I go to the ballpark really has helped me keep my sanity. Not to mention "talking shop" on this board and others (fortunatly the hospital has a PC set up with internet access for families in the Kids ICU).

Have a great season, everybody!
Ernie
