NSA Courtesy Runner

The courtesy runner rule in NSA is quite different. The CR must be in the batting lineup, and is specifically defined as the last player to make an out. If that player is on deck or due up to bat, the preceding player may be used; same is true if the player who made the last out is the pitcher or catcher. In addition to providing for additional strategy in making up the batting lineup, it also provides the strategy element of when to decide to use the courtesy runner. For example, if the player who made the last out is not fleet of foot, the coach could delay inserting a CR until another player is retired, which could be the batter who bats after the P or C has reached base.
