Almost forgot to post this - busy day at work.
Last night, well played 14U game, I'm PU. Sometime in the top of the 1st inning, coming from somewhere in the home team fans section, "Come On, Blue!!! That was awful!" This on a relatively normal grounder to F6 that gets bobbled. There was no play anywhere, and no other runners. Couldn't figure out what I or partner could have possibly done wrong. Bottom of the second, same guy: "Dangit, Blue!!! Pay attention!! That's the 3rd time you've done that!". This on a benign passed ball where no one advanced. Worried we have a fan who's hallucinating. Bottom of the fourth, same guy: "Blue!!!! That was a strike! Come on, Blue!!!!" My thoughts, "Uh, dumbass, I called it a strike." Bottom of the sixth, winning run on 2nd, time has expired. And finally the light goes on for me as home team's shortstop lines one to right field scoring the winning run... same guy: "Nice hit, Blue!!! Way to go, Blue!!!" and the home team dugout starts chanting, "Blue! Blue! Blue!" I laughed for about 10 minutes with partner after the game, as we made up possible variations of this. |

Had a baseball game like that the other day; the batter's nickname was "Blue." He made it a point to tell me this as he stepped into the box so I wouldn't think they were talking about me.
Of course, when he got a base hit and they were all yelling, "You're my boy, Blue!" I kinda got a kick out of it. |

When calling my first game this year, one of the coaches kept yelling blue! blue!. Everytime, I would look over at him and he was not looking at me or my partner. Guess what? Their team colors are blue and white. He was using the team colors as signals to his players. To this day, when I call this school's games, it takes me a few minutes to get use to this.
