DP/Flex base running rule???

You use the DP/Flex to start the game....(locking them in the lineup)..
But the Flex never plays defense...The DP plays offense and defense....and when the DP reaches base can the Flex enter the game and run for the DP...Can she do this everytime the DP reaches the base....And after each inning the DP is back in the field play defense...."might not be worded good"

Can you start the game using the DP/Flex and only use the flex to run bases for the DP????
