IS IT LEGAL FOR A BATTER/RUNNER TO CARRY THE BAT TO FIRST BASE?

Sure, why shouldn't it be?
In fact by taking it along, one can't throw it on the live-ball. It must however slow you down in running towards 1st base...

Great answer Dutch .
This is one of those rules that I think was brought into (New Zealand) the school game for safety but never put into a rule book .
Hell you can carry it around the bases but watch out for interference

Yes, you could carry the bat to first and as stated, all
the way, but why?
Would slow you down and could cause interference.

This is illegal in USSSA slowpitch. Batter-runner must "dispose" of the bat before touching first base.
