NFHS ANSWERS

It seems that not just people on this board want the answer given to them...

Had a HS association meeting where we reviewed the second part of NFHS softball exam. Only about 80 showed up. 20 opened test for first time that evening.

In the past, we've just given the answer. This year, I demanded a rule reference. When I asked for this, I hear, no lie, one guy say, "you think I have time to read the rule book?"

Seriously people, I teach students with special needs, emotional problems and all kinds of educational issues. As a matter of measuring the effort level, I gave several the test yesterday morning for a few minutes to work on it. They were able to locate the answers just by referencing the index! And he was too busy to open the book!

Only took me 1 1/2 hours to find all the answers, rule references and page numbers. I'm pretty sure he could find the reference for five questions, but he didn't.

I just had to rant a little bit. I feel much better now.

Unfortunately, this is a problem in the umpiring world. There are those who are in it only to get the check, and couldn't care less about truly being an umpire. The sad thing is, this reflects on everyone one of us in the profession.

I agree with Scott on this one. Some are in for the money! And some are professional on it, They want to learn things new and make sure they get the right call..
