College game this weekend. Had a pitcher with pivot foot on rubber on the upswing of the hands, when she brought her hands down and began her windmill she picked up her foot and replanted back on the pitching rubber. Illegal?

By rule, this is illegal. Realistically, what I would do would be dependent on whether she picked up her foot half a centimeter of if she was a high-steppin' Radio City Music Hall dancer.

Half a centimeter or a yard, if there is separation,
there is loss of contract with the rubber. IP. Will it be called? Probably not. Should it be called? pollywolly60: Sorry I could not get back to your questions. I was gone from Wed through Sun. Hope you had a good one.

An aside here;
I hoped to work these games with the mrs, or at least watch them. I didn't get to see this on sunday, (doing baseball tourney-got to call DeLino DeShields son's game, Delino was 1B coach, classy team that took the tourney). This IP'er will be throwing today though, I hope to catch some of the games (DH). I'll report back if IP is called. |

Okay, well, I didn't call it. Still wondering whether I should have. She didn't pick it up REAL high, but when I pointed it out to my partner behind the bases between innings, he said he could see it, so it was plenty high enough to be noticeable. This pitcher pitched the last two innings of the first game when I was behind the plate. I didn't catch it then, and neither did my partner. When I did see it, she was in the second inning of the second game. I wanted to confer with my partner before making a decision on whether to call it, especially since it wasn't a crow hop or leap. So by the time he saw it and we discussed it, we were in the fourth inning of the second game. I didn't think I should call it then, since she had been pitching for six innings.
Glen, I was able to find the NCAA rule book on line, and browsed through it for an hour or two Sunday morning. All went smoothly. |
