Since most of us are weathered in or preparing for the upcoming
Holiday Season, here is a little something we can play with.

Changes I would like to see in 05:
(These changes are for all associations that cover rules govering the game of softball)

1. Illegal Pitches - As long as the pitcher is in the circle when the ball is delivered, the pitch is legal.
2. Interference - As long as there is no malicious contract, there is no interference.
3. Obstruction - If a runner can, in any manner, go over, through, around, under to reach their destination,
then there is no Obstruction
4. DP/FLEX - Allow the players occupying these positions to play wherever, whenever, the coaches
desires. Most think they can anyway.
5. Home Plate expanded to 32” - the width all coaches and pitchers already think it is.
6. Appeals - Give the coach what they ask for. In other words, if a coach thinks that obstruction has
occurred and comes out wanting interference, give it to them. Take the out.
7. Timed games - allow the coaches to keep the official game time.

Please add to this list or make appropriate changes as necessary.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

i like 'em except i'd change #7 to read ::

" 7. Timed games - allow the coach who has the lead to keep the official game time."

i think that would get the desired affect ;-)

Been there, done that! Coach didn't know what to think and just headed back to the dugout with the runner.

Since everybody else here seems to get overly confusing with the rules since ball games are at a minimum, I figured I'd give this a go-round:

1. Change the ruling from "in the circle" to "within the area bounded by the bleachers, fences, parking lots, and/or high weeds in which a spitting cobra could be lurking." This amendment is not to protect the pitcher, but the cobra. Pitchers have been known to be poisonous.

2. Malicious contract? In addition to the NFHS, NCAA, et. al. do we have the MAFIA?

3. In addition, obstruction/interference should be ruled any time any player, coach or fan gets even the slight bit obnoxious, and the umpire should be allowed to award or penalize as he/she sees fit, even to capital punishment.

4. DP/DH/FLEX is hereby abolished as being against the rules of man and nature. 9 players on a field and in the batting order.

5. Home plate, and all bases, become virtual and in the eyes and mind of the umpire. Therefore, nobody can dispute anything an umpire does.

6. There is nothing appealing about a coach, most times anyway. I've seen a few cute ones, but now that I've got a gorgeous girlfriend, I think that appeal is unnecessary.

7. Timed game. The game should be over whenever the umpire says so... period. Let the coaches keep guessing.

Merry Christmas, everybody.

My one wish, would be when determining whether a run counts or not on an appeal play..it goes back to the time of the infraction & not the time when the appeal was made. Wouldn't that be so much easier

Speaking ASA

That only applies an appeal which leads to a force out, not all appeals.
