Yow! I just learned that there's an ongoing lawsuit involving an injury incurred in a tournament game I plate umpired in summer of 2002. The pitcher's foot was smashed by a shot from a Miken Ultra.

As I remember—possibly incorrectly—ASA had banned the Miken Ultra shortly before the tourney, but Miken had threatened to sue the tournament if they also banned it. They even sent a representative to make sure. It was invitational, not ASA championship, and ASA said they had no power over such a tournament.

Apparently this suit has been in the courts for the two-plus years since the injury, so I don't know how I avoided being named in it.

Or maybe they're looking for me. Perhaps I should wear a disguise for a few years.
