Working a 12U fall ball game today and I got my first perfect game. It was funny because the pitcher pitched in the very first plate game I umpired 3 years ago. Incredible pitcher and a very good sport (earlier this year had a perfect game going when a girl hit a double off her in the last inning, at which point the pitcher went over and congratulated the batter on a great hit). But she was absolutely perfect today - 15 strikeouts - and just dominated a very good team. Even though it was fall ball, it was a lot of fun to be behind the plate for it.
Strange thing about the game: the entire game, when the girl was pitching, one of the parents of the other team stood behind the backstop and yelled "Her hair. Her hair! Blue, do you see her hair? Why do you think she's killing them like that?" Pitcher had her hair in two braided pigtails, just like every other game I've ever seen her pitch. But I couldn't for the life of me figure out what this coach was talking about. |

2 weeks ago Game was a No Hitter by a Junior in HS
Following week a Freshman at a new HS pitched a Perfect Game, from there it went downhill and reality set in 11 - 7 and 5 - 4 with both Visitors winning

It was kind of funny because the pitcher (little longer than shoulder length hair) came up to me between innings, looking exceptionally concerned, and asked if her hair was illegal. I told her no and she asked me what the person in the stands was talking about. I just shrugged. That was one of those things were I don't even know where the parent could have possibly gotten that from. Sometimes I wonder if the parents have happy hour before the games.

Had a game last night where the same girl was pitching... and she struck out 9 straight batters in 3 innings before the coaches took her out. I was just thinking that was a lot of batters to go through without a single hit (the best the batters have done are foul balls) and so I'm still awfully impressed.

Guess he was saving her for later....
I would have like to heard what happened had he left her in the game longer.
