WMB you hit the nail on the head, I used to enforce uniforms tucked in and coaches in the dugout. Now unless the UIC say enforce it I let it go because about 85% of the umpires in Georgia do not enforce these rules in HS or ASA and I am tired of hearing about "that other umpire"

Shirts tucked in was changed to properly worn and to me that means covering the body so let's play ball and enforce INT, OBS and IP.

This happened to another official last week. I am going to this same school Tuesday and know it will come up.

Our blue made this team tuck their jerseys inside their pants after the coach argued they were meant to be left out. Other blue went along with this.

In rule 3-2-10, it states the uniform should be worn in the way the manufacturer intended them to be worn.

What are your thoughts? Is there a more definitive rule elsewhere? How are we supposed to know the difference in the uniforms. Thanks for your help.

In rule 3-2-10 what does "should" mean?

There are way to many variations in uniforms for the rules people to write a rule that works. If I see a problem then I will deal with it. Until then play ball.

The rulebook also has sections devoted to Letter and Number height and width. Do you measure that as well?

How many times has a coach approached you and said that "Little Susie" brought the wrong uniform...or has a slightly different uniform. Do you mind if she still plays? By rule she can't.

Someone mentioned "We are not the fashion police!" I agree whole heartedly with that.

BTW - FuBlue suggested coaches carry letters in jest, A couple of years ago the NCAA made coaches carry a letter regarding helmets IF they were purchased prior to madatory NOCSAE embossing......Now THAT was a mess!!!

"However, I wouldn't tell the coaches this ahead of time."

"I make sure the coach knows that a ball striking loose clothing will not get a girl a trip to 1B, and they might be called out if a tag is applied to loose clothing. Then we play the game."

All that I am doing is telling the coaches that they are responsible for their player's appearance. They can tell their girls to tuck the shirt in, or not. I don't care, but don't come crying to me when the ball hits a loose shirt and I won't send them to 1B.

Actually, the enforcement of rules concerning the uniform and the level to which it is taken are, or at least should be, determined by the Tournament Director. S/he, in turn, will inform the UIC of which violations the umpire should consider.
