A couple of years ago, I worked a local
one-pitch men's softball tournament. I thought it was great. Moved the game along really well---- the batters had to hit the ball--- fielders were forced to use their skills. Made for a good fast moving series of games that I enjoyed calling. Anyone else have thoughts about it ?

Jel,
The way they play it around here, fun leagues and fund raisers, is batter comes to plate with 3-2 count. Pitch a ball, they walk, they foul it, they are out. Really makes a fast game. Very few batters take a pitch.

Tournament rain
Saw this done once to help finish a tournament that had been wipped out with rain for the most part. Beat having to flip a coin. Teams & Players still had something to say about the end result.

One pitch Tournament is fun to do. I have played in it back in my Army days, we also won that tournament and could you belive that I pitch that tournament. Well we are trying to start doing tournaments on Fridays here in Augusta. It is a blast to do. 3-2 count as they come to bat.
Jel, take care over there cause of Ivan!!

Have been asked to do a "fund raiser" tourney for a local re-hab center, (they need a new van). This kind of tourney sonds like it would just fit the bill! I will run it past them and see what happens.
Buddha, It's 11:30 a.m. here, Ivan has come! we've lost power twice, but expect to lose it again. I am prepared though, have 12v lighting system, camp stove for cooking etc. Only trouble we will have is no power=no well pumping! We will have to dip water to flush! Will be OK, Opal got us a few years back, lost power for 6 days, lived through it then. Let's all keep those south of me in our thoughts and prayers, I have heard this system is to blame for 12 deaths in the U.S. and 68 in other locales. If all I lose are a few trees, power, roof etc. I will consider myself lucky. |
