Each tourny I do this year when I get into a conversation about bats since soooo many are getting tossed and they have to play with a mush ball I put the seed into the players for a new league.

Use only wood or single walled alluminium bats, no composits, no double and triple or sixteen walled bats just plain old bats and then you can have softballs that still have that pleasant solid whack sound when hit hard even after 4 or 5 innings. With the money they save by not buying $350 bats they could feed an entire village in the Congo for a month or buy me a plane ticket there.

Not a bad idea, about 7 years ago I called a men's modified league that had a field with such short fences they used a cor. 16 ball and nothing got out of the park on a regular basis.
Good defensive games and bats were not even discussed.
