Sorry for boring with this basic rule quetion...
I'm a brand new player to a Men's 12" slowpitch league, played with ASA rules...

Does anyone feel like explaining the ASA substitution rules?
Also, does every position player need to bat (DH for a pitcher allowed)?

I wouldn't have to bother with these questions if the ASA Rulebook was available to meer peasants of the game like myself! Thanks!

There is no such animal as a DH in ASA ball. A team may start with either 10 or 11 players, with any 10 playing a defensive position at any time. A team may start short on player, or continue short one player less than the team began the game. In both cases, and out will be assessed each time the empty position is due to bat. A team may not play shorthanded if it was caused by the ejection of a player.

Every player may enter the game one time as a starter or substitute and each has one reentry available. To make that simpler, each player may be IN the game twice, but no more. When reentering, the player must reenter in the same position in the batting order which they left.

Your manager should have a rule book. If he doesn't, he's not too smart.

good informative response zebra, looks like neither of us have rulebooks with that response. I am the captain of the team and rulebooks were not distributed, but I appreciate the help jackass, I mean zebra. On the otherhand, thanks for the response Rowe, answered my question perfectly. Sorry to everyone for getting a little heated but I asked a question looking for help and I get a response like that from zebra.

Hey Don, cool it. Those that frequent this board often know that Zebra is a bit cantankerous, but we manage to get along with him (usually).

However, it was YOU that came on this board with the somewhat sarcastic remark “I wouldn't have to bother with these questions if the ASA Rulebook was available to meer peasants of the game like myself!”

Well, don’t be so damn cheap; go out and buy the book and you won’t have to come here and be insulted by old umpires that do know the rules.

Then come back and we’ll help you with the interpretation of the rules, cuz just reading the book doesn’t always lead to good rules knowledge.
