I'm all for safer helmets. But our high school is closing after 2006, so we'll have to buy helmets that will only be in use for a year. Ah well, such is life.

You can get just the facemasks. Your helmets might already be drilled for them. They cost about $10 and mounting hardware is included. So, compared to bats (and even game balls) its a minimal investment.
