Yes, Delaware has collegiate football. You may have heard that UD won the only NCAA Div I National Football Championship this year. And before you go on about UD copying UM's uniform, you should know that UM stole their uniform design from Princeton.

Mike

You left out one major detail. UD won the NCAA Div 1 <B>AA</b>
National Championship. UM and Princeton are NCAA Div 1 <B>A</b> schools and any comparison between them and UD is irrelevant. To put that in terms you might appreciate, that is the equivalent of calling a pitch in FP softball over the center of the plate and just above the knees, a ball. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-033.gif

Not to underrate the importance of the various BCS-minded football programs to the academic mission of the sponsoring institution, but the athletes at the smaller schools have a lot more in common with the student body, and are therefore actually something the institution can be proud of. Kind of like the difference between a High School softball team and a 18U Gold team that happens to use the same town name.

Again, different leagues, the 18U Gold team would crush the local high school team.

Nope, don't think so. To begin, Princeton is an Ivy and the Ivy League is in Div. I-AA. Besides, I was only talking about the uniforms. Did you read my post?

Secondly, Div I-A did not have a national championship. One team won the AP Poll, the other team won the BCS Championship.

If you think that isn't relevant, you better start working on your strike zone ;)

With all due respect,
If one does not like professional sports and professional athletes, why would one open and reply to a thread with the headline "Go Pistons"?

I thought he was talking about engine repair. After all, aren't a lot of our conversations involve mechanics.

Besides, didn't anyone see my little winkings smiley at the end of the post?

And shame on me for forgeting that Del-Blue's home course is hosting one of the four LPGA majors this week.

Exactly - which is why the analogy works. The other part is association. The HS team is actually made up of students. The Gold team is made up of recruits from just about anywhere, even though they carry the town name. Kinda like the football comparison, don't you think?

It was no secret that many football fans were disappointed with the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) results, which produced Division I-A national co-champions, LSU and Southern California.

Shouldn't the team that pays it's players less win the championship? ;)
