The HS season ended here in AZ last weekend. I was looking at the NFCA/USA Today High School top 25 rankings this morning. Leaving aside the fact that I can't see how an accurate "national" ranking of HS teams can be done, I realized this:

This season, I worked games involving the following HS teams:

Number 1 - Elkins HS, Texas
Number 2 - Cactus HS, AZ
Number 3 - Pacifica HS, CA
(I actually worked a game between Elkins and Pacifica - probably the best HS game I've ever worked!)
Number 6 - Clovis HS, CA
Number 13 - Mater Dei HS, CA
Number 21 - Deer Valley HS, AZ

I have also worked games of at least three other teams that were ranked in the top 25 at one time or another this season. Not a bad season!

It can't... in any sport. It is an exercise purely in selling papers.

Cool

I believe sucjh "rankings" have no place in
high school sports.
Worse are local newspaper sport's editors actually
"handicapping" high school football games !!
Horrible------ and the state associations should
put and end to it.
The only ranking is the one at the end of all
the play-off games !

Andy,

Elkins is still undefeated. One more win and they will go
to the State tournament.
