Facemask Shopping

Okay, I know we've been here before, but I can't find the past threads with this subject, so forgive me for bringing this up again.

My Chief Financial Officer (yes, my wife) has authorized me to purchase a new facemask. I've narrowed the list down to two. Would like opinions on these (or any other super/ultra-lightweight) masks. They are:

Wilson Chrome Miliben super-lightweight, sold by Lester's Upstate Sports ( http://www.lestersupstatesports.com/...tegory_Code=MA )

or

+POS AUL300 Super Ultra Light Zero-Gravity ( http://www.pluspos.com/package.asp?packid=31 )

Any opinions would be greatly appreciative.

I honestly think that it is six of one and half a dozen of another. Either is essentially the same mask. I bought the Wilson mask from Lester's just a month and a half or so ago, and so far have really enjoyed the heck out of it.

I got the Wilson mask for x-mas and love it. Took a direct hit from a mid 50's fastball off the bat with no teeth rattling like I had with my older mask. I have not used it with a six stitch hat at a game but trying it in my living rooms seems like it may be a little tight. Plan to see how it works out at a Babe Ruth game this weekend with the 6 underneath.

I have the +POS ultra light mask, not the zero gravity, so I can't comment on it directly. But the one great thing about +POS masks is that they have air pads. The pads are filled with air, and they absorb the shock very well. Sort of like the nike air shoes.

I bought the Wilson from Lesters - but my daughter talked me out of it

It is very light - excellent visibility.

+POS has a, shall we say, checkered customer service reputation. Lesters is excellent, by my experience.

How much does a light weight or ultra-light weight mask weigh?
The facts escape me from the advertising claims. Do we really know?

I concur with LDUB about the Plus Pos ultra light of a couple of years ago. Noticeably lighter and I personaly have had no customer service problems.

The Gerry Davis low profile is one of the lightest and
allows great visibility. I have the old plus pos ultra,
but have retired it because of the visibility and equal
lightness of the Gerry Davis low profile mask. Have
used it with 6 stitch, but works best with 4 stitch.

difference in weight. It is just that the Davis mask is

I just went to the U.S. Postal Service and weighed my mask.

Bought last century, in the early 90's I imagine, my Rawlings LWMX double-bar (made in Taiwan) weighed in at 1 lb. 9.0 oz (1.56 lbs.) without the tongue depressor.

It would seem that in 20 years, with all the new space-age stuff available that 1.45 may be a little heavier than necessary.
