1st game coming up this Wednesday!!

This is a leftover from last year ....

Coach comes up to me and says, if the next batter (a starter on the lineup) gets on base, I'm putting in a runner for her. Her leg is sore.

Sure enough, she gets to 1st on a walk. Coach calls time and the pinch runner comes in.

Inning is soon over. Player with sore leg trots back on to the field, pinch runner stays on the bench.

I don't see anything in my rule book saying a pinch runner is a substitute or that the player that went to the bench is considered removed.

Is it implied elsewhere?

Can the pinch runner re-enter ?

I would confirm with the coach that the Pinch Runner is a substitute (preventive umpiring)and make the change on my lineup card and report to official scorer. If I saw the starter return I would ask the coach if this was a reentry, again defensive umpiring, if reentry report to official scorer. Then the pinch runner is a substitute that has been in the game and is eligible for reentry.

Without the defensive umpiring you may set your self up for an appeal of an illegal sub as the changes can not be made on condition and must be made at the time the substitution takes place

First of all what rules is this game being played under? Different rules for different organizations.

In ASA there is no such thing as a "pinch runner." If you replace a player, that is a substitution, whether as a runer or batter or center fielder. And all substitution, including re-entry, rules apply.

NFHS does use the words pinch hitter or pinch runner, but they are noted as substitutes in the definitions.
