I wear the long McDavid tights. They keep me warm during the freezing cold games of March in Ohio and keep me cool when umpiring during blazing heat of August in Florida.

Also, you could cut the toe end off of a pair of socks and then you can position them in exactly the place where you need extra padding where shinguards bother you.
