Does NCAA softball rules prohibit jewelry? I watched the Georgia vs Florida game yesterday and noticed the Florida pitcher wearing diamond earrings. I'm guessing there is no restrictions at the NCAA level.

I found a copy of the 2003 NCAA Softball Rulebook. Rule 3 - Section 9 states "Players shall not wear jewelry." and lists three exceptions - taped necklaces, taped medical alert bracelets, and barrettes. Did this rule change in 2004?

That rule changed this year. People that were out of the game in the College World Series had jewelry on and that is what people saw. The coaches are responsible for what their players wear. It's a good change as far as I'm concerned.

NCAA.org is responding very slowly today. I did finally find the rule change listed in the 2004 rulebook. I wish the rule would change in other rule sets placing the responsibility on parents and coaches for wearing of jewelry unless the umpire deems it distracting or dangerous to an opponent.

I would prefer no jewelry, regardless of level, for consistency, lack of distraction, and avoiding one possibility for blood and/or game delay.
And yes, no one asked but, NCAA players are allowed metal cleats.

Hello All.....Kellerumps have emerged from a long winters rest.
Rule change this year in NCAA......Jewelry in all forms in legal. Good rule change as far as we are concerned.
