Question posted on the other board, regarding additional protection for a female catcher. I believe the correct term would be pelvic protector. I'm almost 100% sure boys in NFHS are required to wear a cup, and I thought girls were required to wear a pelvic protector, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if it is a NFHS requirement for girls, and how would you administer that rule if it is required.

I know for a fact, I'm not asking
!!!!! I think if it is a rule, the liability would be on the coach!!

Comments!!!!!!!!

No, female catchers are not required to wear a pelvic protector, although male catchers (or non-adult males warming up the pitcher) are required to wear a cup.

NFHS Rule 1-1-7 (2003).

Actually, Bob, I think we do ask - at least in Pa. Part of the pregame is a sportsmanship reading and at the end of this reading, the last sentence is something to the effect of "Coaches, Please certify to the officials that your players are legally and properly equipped."

You are correct. In NFHS baseball, catchers are required to wear a cup. In Louisiana, we start our pregame conference by having the coaches certify that their equipment is legal and that the players are wearing it properly.

Steve, You are correct. We ask the coaches the same thing. I just wasn't thinking about that. I guess that puts everything on the coaches.

Exclamation

I always ask a second question. "Is all saftey equipment properly worn and intact?"

I don't proceed until I receive an affirmitive reply from each team's representive.
