When do you start?

My boys season is officially 3 weeks away. I'm getting excited! I've reduced the number of my games because of my son's Senior season but have a full enough schedule to have fun and should get me a couple of first & second round play-off games. When do you get started in your area?

We'll be starting on the 17th of August, once again before the National test day. So we take our test early (with permission of course).

Do you have something like a seperate boys and girls season refnrev?

Yep, in Illinois the boys play in the fall and the girls in the Spring. I love it that way. So many more opportunities for games.

The rules meeting I'm attending is tomorrow and Southern Illinois University @Edwardsville. The date for the Part Two test for promotion is in about 3 weeks.

My first game is August 23rd. Wisconsin uses the Boys-Fall / Girls-spring as well. I like it quite a bit and it does give you plenty of game opportunities. I have already turned my test in, I'm surprised that it is different in other areas. I think that some of the reasons that the seasons are split here is venue and official availability. Too many teams playing at once to get it done and the amount of referees is limited.

We start with the start of the school year.
NV plays HS soccer as a Fall sport in the North for both boys and girls as we simply don't have the weather to play outside during the Winter and it would difficult to play in the Spring as well. Baseball and softball do play in the Spring and struggle with the weather.
In Southern NV the boys have played in the Fall and the girls in the Winter for quite a few years now, but the state office will be changing that next year (2008-09) to allow for a girls State Championship game. So everyone will play in the Fall.

Both boys and girls play in the fall for high school. Tryouts for Spring (US Youth) are usually still done in the snow. Lightening is about all games get stopped for. Ahhh memories of tournaments done in May when our pregame is done while sweeping snow off the lines with our feet.

Maybe I'm just being slow tonight, but how does dividing boys and girls seasons make more opportunities for games ? When it is the girls High school season, aren't the boys playing club?

TN Girls play Soccer as a fall sport. Pre-season scrimmages allowed 8/6, regular season about 2 weeks later. Championship last week of Oct.

Boys play Soccer as a spring sport. Meat of season is Mar & April with State Championship the first week of May.

Split Season more opportunities to referee? I believe so. With the seasons split almost all school have a "full" JV schedule in addition to the Varsity schedule. In Basketball where the Boys & Girls are both a winter sport the JV teams only get 6 to 8 games due to space availability issues and referee availability issues. If TN went to Boys and Girls both in one season we would not have enough referees to cover the games.

I know I'm new to all of this but our season in Mississippi for girls and boys HS doesn't start until November. I contacted my assignor and will probably doing some lines for some HS matches I'm a little nervous b/c this is my first year to ref but he was really excited that someone actually WANTED to become a referee. There are a lot of schools/teams and 17 active referees in north Mississippi.
