question about title 9

I live in a town where they are trying to revive a football program. In doing so they are stopping all boys basketball until 2 weeks before 1st game. They are not stopping any girls activities that pertain to basketball. Is this a violation of title 9? this is very disharting to the people of the town who work hard to support basketball.

Who is "they"?

They are the Athletic director and the administration of the school. From the talk that I have had with the basketball coach these are the people making the decision.

What basketball activites are you talking about? I doubt you will get any title IX violations from this.

Sounds like they are just trying to get the kids to play football. By knocking out all basketball activites, if the boys want to play a sport they will have to choose football. Once the program is established, they will probably go back to letting basketball start up again sooner.
