I've been lurking for weeks now and finally registered. Just want to say hello and that the information I've found here so far is unbelievable (not sure I'll have anything of substance to offer compared to the experience some of you others have).

I'm about to start my third full year officiating (football only) and I'm just so upset at myself for not having started sooner. I've never played the game beyond 8th grade (and then in no organized fashion) and before this, the last time I was on a high school football field I was playing the trombone.

I may post with some silly anecdotal contributions at first (since it may be all I have), so please be patient with me.

This forum is what's fuelling me through the lull between seasons. Thanks to all and keep it up.

TCGRACA,
Welcome to the forum.
I know what yer sayin'.
A few years ago I was in the same boat.
Ask the questions, offer a situation, lend advice, use what you may, and enjoy the ride.

Technical Fouls Question?

Hey All,

I was told you can actually give up to 10 technical fouls on someone.

I was reffing a mens league and I had to kick the guy out of the game after a couple of techs... He kept on being a jerk and cursing extensively at me...

Can I continue to give more T's?

Thanks for your help!

Ed, in high school rules, there's no limit placed on the number of technical fouls a person can receive. But at some point (probably after #3), I would declare the game a forfeit. The extra T's don't accomplish anything except to create a parade at the free throw line. I think a pretty standard way to handle your situation is to have the timer start a 60-second countdown and tell the coach/AD/person-in-charge that if the jerk isn't out of the gym for good in 60 seconds, the game is over.

In NCAA rules, any participant can only receive 2 direct technical fouls. This is the result of the run-in between Bobby Knight and Ted Valentine a few years ago.

Oh yeah. Welcome to the forum!! Hope you stick around.
