At first I thought the "and possibly lose draft picks" part was idiotic for something that should have simply been called on the field. Now it sounds like they are only considering moving draft picks if the play affected Pittsburgh's or Baltimore's draft slot (via points tiebreaker). That makes at least SOME sense.

The play won't affect Pittsburgh or Baltimore's draft slot. He was getting tackled either way, and you can't punish Pittsburgh extra because the officials failed to flag it.

How do you figure this has any bearing on whether the league can punish the team? Players get fined and suspended all the time for on-field activities that weren't flagged.

I've heard "irrelevant" isn't a word (sorry, inside joke), but whether it was flagged couldn't be less relevant when it comes to whether or not the league can punish.

$100,000.00?!!!! If that warranted a 100k fine, then Dusty Baker's Batboy son deserves the electric chair.

One was (in the opinion of the NFL) an intentional act. Your example is far from intentional.

I was thinking logically and assuming the league wasn't trying to resume its anti-Steelers vendetta.

Yeah, you're really trying to learn about football officiating.

You're right. I can't. Not personally.

What I'm referring to, though, is the stated intent of the NFL. They (thank goodness) absolutely CAN punish Pittsburgh extra. (Should they? Maybe, maybe not.)
