At our meeting last night we were told that we would now have to wear black shorts (we wear shorts below varsity, very hot climate). Does anyone know where I can order black shorts with 4 pockets and belt loops. Thanks

I know of only two locations where Black Shorts are worn.
Las Vegas, Nevada and Vancouver, Washington
(I got my info from Honigs)

1) Are you in one of those locations or is this a new thing for your association?

2) Does anybody know of any other associaions that wear Black Shorts?

Thanks

In fact, shorts of any color, YUCK!

It's knickers or not at all.

Thumbs down

they wear black shorts for sub-varisty games here
in SW FL------- ugh is right--------
what's worse is they do not allow white shorts for
Varsity contests !!! Knickers only in this climate ???
The excuse is that shorts are not professional enough
at Varisty level.
pftt to that too !!
Anyone want to buy some XXL white shorts ??

I disagree. We aren't allowed to wear shots in NC for varsity contests either. It does look unprofessional. It can be just as hot here as it is in the SW. Last year, on opening night, it was 95 degrees at kickoff and the humidity was 100%. If the kids can do it, so can we. MHO

Cool Hawaii is a black shorts state...

Over here we wear black shorts and mesh shirts for Pop Warner and daylight games (starting times prior to 4:30pm). I actually love the black shorts (don't show the dirt and grass stains). We wear plain white socks (but I don't like the fact that some guys are wearing short socks and other guys are wearing long socks; to me it looks tacky).

For all JV and Varsity games starting at 4:30pm or later, which is the case 99% of the time, we always wear white knickers. Now we have two schools up at the 2,000 foot elevation level and the night games can get cool and breezy. So this year we are actually going to wear long-sleeved shirts up there.

For all you warm weather officials has anyone tried the Honig's cotton/poly blend knickers and shirts? They claim to be cooler... Also, Honigs has "athletic" cut knickers. Been wearing them for 2 seasons now... Seat and thighs have more room... More expensive but very well made and durable.

Main thing about warm weather: make sure your uniform is not too tight, get air circulation around your body, and drink plenty of water!

Brrrr, right, that must have been terrible.. Try just a noon game with a temperature of 31.9 degrees, pouring rain (or something), winds blowing nearly 20mph topped off by a long delay in the 2nd quarter for lightening. Oh yeah, the final was 73-14.

A black divers suit would have been better for this game.

I tried one of the cotton blend shirts this past season and liked it. I’m not sure if I was actually any cooler, but I thought I was and that am what counts ... Right?

This is a very important for both body and mind! And especially so for us guys working in the meat grinder. While discussing “Appearance” at camp this year we talked about the large proportion of Umpires that have bodies of larger proportions. It was suggested that we go up an X or so and get uniforms that are loose fitting so as not to enhance the appearance of busting our buttons LOL.

Cool

We wear black shorts in Tennessee with any game below varsity until weather does not permit us to. We do not wear shorts at any varsity contest(we do wear black shorts during scrimmages.)
