There is a semi-pro Ohio Valley Football League too.

I've worked Ohio Valley games the past two years. We have a couple of teams in Flint and 1 in Pontiac.

Sure did! Do we know each other??!?!!?

In fact, I probably did the most of anyone this summer. I was available for short notice. For example, I know one gentleman had an emergency at work and asked is another official could be found. I got the call.

Did you see many games? Did you see me work? If you know my shirt number, I'll be at a disadvantage.

Do you work the OV? If so, from what board? The final is in Waterloo eh? (I actually live about 30 seconds from University Stadium.)

FWIW, for all, the website is www.ovfootball.ca

Edit:

I just checked - you told me in the b-ball forum that you're from Hamilton. Very cool. Do you know Mickelboro, Montani, Valessi? I guess you also know Cip, Foxy, I think Tony Turnbull is from Hamilton... he did the OFSAA Quad A Final at Cathedral.... he had a ***=-GREAT-=*** goaltending call. Did you see that game? Do you know any teacher-coaches at Cathedral?

Regards,

Mike

I was on the sticks for most of the OVFL games in Hamilton, and if you did a game there, we probably met.

I didn't get a chance to work in Hamilton this summer. Did they play at Ivor Wynne exclusively? What about the AAA field near Main and ?????? (near the Taco Bell). Does that field get used anymore for OV? I did a game or two there.

How do you find the new turf at Ivor Wynne? I am reffing the Steel City/Halton semi this Saturday though.

They played at HAAA while Ivor Wynne was being returfed, there were about 3 days where the games were there.

The new turf at Ivor Wynne is great. It feels just like a real field, although the pieces of rubber get everywhere.

Camps

Were you able to find any good basketball camps in the area besides the OABO camps?

Well, the Naismith camp is pretty good, for more for the beginning official I found. The level of ball isn't as high as MDP or JDP. (BDP is good too - it's very structured.)

Both of those camps (M and JDP) are awesome. If you go to those ones, you might get selected for the All-Canada camp. That is extreme talent. Basically, it's the best 80 kids from around the country.

I went to Bova's camp at Kent St. Uni. a few years ago. A really good camp... I learned 3-person there. I am not sure it's going anymore though.

Other than that, there's the CABO camp in Montreal. It's a good camp with some quality people there. However, it's overpriced in my mind. But you gotta go nontheless. If you ever go, make sure you get evaluated by Mario Lessard. He is by far the best evaluator I have ever had. I mean, nobody else comes close.

Those are the only camps that I know of near southern Ontario. I'm a bit out of the loop now, spending more time in football and developing my business.

How long have you been doing basketball? How long for football? Can I ask your name... I wonder if I've heard your name before. E-mail me through my profile if you'd like.

Cheers,

Mike
