Our association is considering changing kickoff positioning.
Our normal 5 man mechanics are that the R,U,BJ are on receiving end. I have heard of some associations having the BJ with the kicker and some with Umpire with kicker. Looking for some experiences, logic, ideas. What seems to work best in your association or should we keep the same as we have been doing it. |

When we use 5 man: R is at R's 5 yard line in the middle but favoring the HL's side of the field. U is with the kicker. HL has R's free-kick line. LJ has K's free-kick line. BJ is on LJ's side around the 20 or 25 yard line.
We did not like the new mechanics that puts all 5 officials on the sideline. This formation works well for us. Main thing is that the R is close enough to the HL's side to cover deep kicks going out of bounds.

For NF games we'll put BJ on the kicking line with HL and LJ on the restraining line. U and HR are behind the deep receivers.
For canadian, I believe it's HR on K line, U on restrain, HL and LJ on 35 and BJ deep. I've done the latter so many times but for the life of me I can't be 100% sure. |

We have the U with the kicker but it seems to me that it would make more sense to have the BJ with the kicker. Most of our umpires are older, while most of our BJs are younger AND FASTER. As a LJ, I find myself having to get to the GL on a long return, since our U isn't going to get there.
