Our crew has noticed that this year has been the worst we can remember in the area of sprotsmanship and atittude. We have called more unsportsmanlike penalties this year than any other. We have had more trouble with players, coaches and fans. We have even had trouble with chain crews and clock operators who don't respect our authority and give us problems when we try to correct mistakes.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just us? What do we do about it?

Todd

Thumbs down

Todd,

I have noticed the same thing here in Iowa. So far this year, we have ejected a coach and probably should have maybe another. And the kids have been ridiculous. Fortunately for us, we have a sportsmanship rating system for coaches, players, and spectators that we turn in at the end of the year. Each school receives a rating and if the rating is not "kosher" with the IHSAA people, they get a little visit and the issue is addressed in an all school assembly. I think a lot of schools will be getting visits this year.
