Not Taking Possession
 

4th down, Team A is flagged for holding which if declined, will result of Team A short of the line to gain.

Team B tells you that they wish to accept the penalty.

What do you do?

Remind them of their options (and I would talk to the coach):

"Coach, if you accept the penalty, it will be 4th and 22. If you decline, YOU GET THE BALL."

No need to expand that second option: keep it simple. If he still wants the penalty, fine with me. :)

While I'm nodding my head "yes", I am telling him that if he declines the penalty it's his ball.

We won't get to the second option ;)

Hey, if they want the field position, and maybe the other team is lousy at punting....

If that's what he wants, he'll tell me that.
