I'm planning to attend the INDY clinic here in June. I have to decide what position I want to sign up for (for position break out exercises).

Since this is going to be my second year, I've only done JV junior high games (four man crews at most). I've enjoyed working the hybrid umpire/bk judge position.

I'd like opinions as for which position I should register. I want to get the most out of the camp and I'm trying to decide which position would be the best for my future as an offical.

Thanks, Jim

Wink

For the hybrid U/BJ position, the BJ part of it is what you end up doing most of the time. Sure, you spot the ball each time and walk off penalties, but when the ball is snapped, you don't really focus on what a 5 man or 4 man U does - point of attack linemen on runs, lineman blocks and QB behind/beyond LOS on passes, pivoting on passes etc etc - you're definitely more in BJ mode with eyes on receivers, lead blocks away from the linesman during running plays, PI, downfield holding etc etc.

You have really enjoyed being a 3/4 BJ, so if I'm you, I sign up for BJ. Classic U is going to be a different world for you at these clinics if you're used to hybrid three man Uing.

You've also had to actually run, so umpiring would definitely be a change of pace

Thanks for the perspective. You are right. I do end up playing more BJ than U. I can't reacall throwing more than a handfull of holding calls in the line this past year.

I think I have my answer. Thanks.
