PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE .....

Recently, while being a couch potato, the question came up on the difference of the hash marks in the pro ranks vs. college ranks. Can someone please explain the difference and why. Also, is there any difference in the width of the goalpost? What year did these changes take place? Many thanks!!!!!!!!
