jUmp- From your rule cite I'm not sure I understand your reasoning for an untimed down-

Rule ❒3 Periods, Time Factors and
Substitutions

SECTION 3 ENDING A PERIOD — HALF
ART. 4 . . . A period shall not be extended by an untimed down if during the last timed down of the period, one of the following occurs:
b. There was a foul by either team and the penalty is accepted for:

5. fouls for which enforcement, by rule, result in a safety.

If they accept the penalty, the period should not be extended since the result is a safety. If they decline the penalty, they have the same result.

Either way, there will be a free kick at the 20 in the next quarter.

D'OH

That's what happens when I skim over the rule too quickly and miss a word....

I shall now go flog myself with my whistle lanyard.
