I want to know if anyone uses a three-man mechanic system for their games and how they are lined up for scrimmage plays. Here in So. Cal. we use two flanks and a ref.

Larry,

For a lot of the subvarsity games in the Houston area we use 3 man crews. The formation will be either the R and L on the flanks, with the U behind the defense...or the R in the offensive backfield, favoring the side opposite the L, and having sideline responsibility for that sideline, with the U on the defensive side of the ball.

Larry,

We use 3 man mechanics in Southern Oregon for the Jr. High games and small school freshman games. We use a R, U and an H. This year we will be starting to use the R, H and L system.

Any suggestions on how to teach this? What are the pro's and con's? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Indiana we do most lower-level with 3-man crews. We use referee, umpire/back-judge, and head linesman. I don't think that the positioning makes a whole lit of difference, you just have to hustle and realize that you're not going to see everything.

Eric.....Like Tom says, you will still have to hussle. There will be more responsibility on the Ref. for holding calls especially if the wide receivers pull the flanks out.
