Loss track of down
Had a very uncomfortable situation Friday. We had 3 guys with 4th down and 2 with 1st down the other way. According to our HL we all had a deer in the lights look. The down box also said 4 before the last play... Has it ever happened to you? We are very good at signaling downs every play. I still am not sure what happened!

I was ECO on a crew that let a team have 5 downs in the playoffs a few years ago. We knew there was an issue but the local supervisor told us that we did give them 5 downs.

5th Down
I haven't had it yet, but it could very well happen, especially when you have an over zealous box person. I have had others suggest checking with the stats guys on both sides, they may be tracking the information and provide insight into the correct down.
