Notice the camera man in the photo. I don't know if this is the camera where we got our view of the replay over and over again, but he sure isn't focused on the WR and the DB.
This is the photo that secures my view of the PI call. Great call, great photo. Conspiracy theorists will now say that the photo is doctored. ![]()

Mike,
Agree. Conspiracy theorists will also say: 1) One picture doesn't tell the story (WRONG) 2) One angle isn't enough, you need a lot of different angles to make the right call (WRONG. IF ONE VIEW IS CONCLUSIVE, WE'RE DONE) 3) The L should of made the call as he was closest (WRONG) 4) Officials were just trying to cover for their buddies in saying that this was a good call (WRONG) 5)Porter initially gave a holding signal and then an interference signal (SO WHAT, OBVIOUSLY HE TOLD THE R THAT HE HAD DPI) 6) The official took too long to make the call (insinuating that he was unsure or swayed by the fans/players) (WRONG-WE'VE ALL BEEN TAUGHT TO NEVER GUESS A FOUL AND TO GO SLOW THEN SLOWER - GOOD MECHANICS!) There's been a lot of banter and baiting by a few disgruntled folks on another board that will not accept the fact that this was a tough, but great call. Thanks for the pic. |

Agreed. We will never get 100% of the people to agree with the call. It will probably be more like 50%!
I've not seen a replay since the game was played and I'm pretty sure the replay they showed over and over again that night came from the camera in the photo above. I originally thought that the call was incorrrect, but TXMike's post breaking the play down and the photographic evidence I've seen since then has convinced me otherwise. The photo above just FULLY secures it. [Edited by mikesears on Mar 6th, 2003 at 12:01 PM] |

This picture answered a lot of doubt in my mind. The line judge was correctly watching his receiver in the middle of the field. Mr. Porter was the correct official to make the call. The cornerback does not appear to be playing the ball. He appears to be impeding the receiver's ability to move towards the ball. The receiver is looking back at the ball as he is entering the endzone. Also, note the cornerback's hand and arm near the receiver's mid-section. Obviously the DB is playing the man and not the ball. Good call!
