Question

A couple basic questions.

Does the NFL assign officals to a particular conference or can they work both the AFC and the NFC during the regular and post season?

Is it the same crew from week to week or do individuals rotate?

First of all welcome to the forum and great question!

The NFL officials are assigned to 7-man crew for the entire regular season. The playoffs are worked by "all-star crews" which are decided by ratings aquired throughout the year. Not all crews work every week. Therefore, if an official is injured or sick an can not work an assignment, then an official from one of the crews that is not working that particular week will be assigned to fill in for that week.

Each crew is assigned 15 regular season games which will be a mix of NFC, AFC, or interconference games. The crews are NOT assigned to a particular conference!

KWH...

Are there any websites that have Info on NFL officials? Now, what I'm talking about is like Bio kinda info. I think it would be neat to see what these guys are like. Things I want to know would be.....Profession (other than NFL), Marital, Kids?, How long officiating?, What level did they start at? and how long did it take to make it to the top? Thats the kinda stuff I'm interested to know. Know of any places to find that stuff out?

Thanks.
Doc

Both these officials may get a chance at this years Superbowl

Both Started out in Philadelphia with the association I belong to. It would be great to see.

Good Luck Guys.

I hope the EAGLES are there also.

Side Judge Don Carlsen #39

This gentleman got his start in my association, and was working the Divisional playoff game in Oakland yesterday.

I hope he will have the opportunity to work this year's Super Bowl, as well, and I KNOW that the Raiders will be there.

#67 Doug Rosenbaum was in my assocation before getting called into the NFL and is in his 2nd year. He was working the 49er-Giant playoff game this year as the FJ. I really want to ask him about the final play and some of the mechanics changes as a result.
