Tennessee/LSU

The LSU/tennessee game seemed to end on a confusing play with the Tigers failing to get into the end zone, trailing by 4, as time expired.
In the bedlam that ensued a LSU player took off his helmet and threw it to the ground.
As we all now know the game did not end because the replay official ruled Tennessee had 13 men on the field before the snap.
When the down was replayed LSU scored to win.

As you might expect the internet talk argues the LSU player should have been penalized for the thrown helmet.

Common sense says the player should not be penalized since he behaved as if the game was over.

But what is the actual official explanation?

It is not a reviewable play?

Rogers Redding, supervisor of SEC officials has said the officials handled it properly.

This would be after we see half the LSU coaching staff, a few ball boys and trainers also on the field. The dead ball fouls offset, the live ball participation foul is used to place the ball halfway and one untimed down.

This is another example of where the action on the field was 100% responsible for ANY confusion. It would have been impossible for anyone to correct that, but where the officials corrected about 95% of the confusion, its still seen, potentially at least, as a missed call.

These articles need to contain a "what the hell would you have done..." section. I couldn't prevent it from getting hot in Texas this year; did I make a mistake?

Did the "game" officials throw a flag for Tenn having 13 guys on the field or was it just replay official?

There were flags down but I think replay paged the officials right away just to make sure.

There were three flags: BJ, SJ, and FJ all had flags.
