They can say what they want, but from a financial standpoint, I bet they love quick overtime games. The TV networks must go nuts when the 1:00 game runs into the 4:00 game and the audience promised to the 4:00 game isn't there yet.

Because most fans hate a tie and feel cheated when there is not an outcome. Hockey used to have lots of ties, but came up with the abomination they call the "shootout" so they could quickly declare a "winner."

The only change I'd like to see is the sudden death not being used if the first team scores a field goal. Fine to end on a TD though. If the team kicks a FG the other team gets the ball and they have a chance to tie or win with a TD. If they do tie it up then it goes back to sudden death on any score.

The committee met for 10 days in Naples, Fla., and, after consulting players and conducting a league-wide survey from the 32 clubs, there wasn't enough support to make any proposal to change the current overtime rules, which were created to minimize the chance of ties.
