overtime
Ohio uses the NFHS overtime format, but modifies to a 20 yard overtime procedure, thereby establishing a line to gain format. After the third overtime period (and any subsequent periods)a five minute intermission occurs. The overtime procedure is mandatory in varsity games (Ohio uses a computer ranking system for the playoffs and a winner is necessary)and permissive in games below varsity, provided it is mutually agreed upon prior to the game. Very few schools appear interested in an overtime below the varsity level.
Ohio is also experimenting this year with no loss of down for OPI and with PSK enforcement.
